TIPS

Not all adhesive repairs are successful. But they can be! Follow our handy tips to ensure that your next project or repair using UHU adhesive runs smoothly and is permanent.

WHICH MATERIALS SHOULD BE GLUED?

The crucial factor when choosing an adhesive is the materials to be bonded. Are these materials permeable to air? What stresses and external influences affect their fragile parts? Are they different materials?

SURFACES MUST BE FREE OF DUST, OIL AND DIRT

To achieve the best bonding result, surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned in advance otherwise, the bond's strength will be greatly compromised.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Placing loads on the materials too early can cause the bonded surfaces to no longer adhere. You should therefore allow sufficient drying time.
  • Less is best! In many cases, too much adhesive is applied. This prolongs the drying time and makes the bonding process more precarious.
  • For adhesives that cure using a solvent or water, it is vital to ensure one of the two materials is permeable. Remember, the choice of adhesive should always be based on the materials to be bonded. Click here for more glue advice.
