You can never have too much storage space. As such, these versatile shelves mounted just under the ceiling are the optimal solution if you want to add storage shelves, to hallways in old buildings in particular.
The basic idea is really simple: runners are installed on the walls above the doors, onto which shelves are mounted. In order that the shelves can be pushed up tight against one another, yet still remain accessible, they are made mobile by means of roller castors.
Downlights integrated into the runners create optimal hallway lighting.
Find out exactly what you have to do to spruce up your hallway with this idea by consulting the assembly instructions below.
MATERIAL AND RESOURCES
If the wooden parts have not already been cut to size by the timber merchant, the runners and edge pieces are cut to width using the hand-held circular saw and a rip fence. Use a guide rail for the longitudinal cut or make these cuts using a mitre saw.
In accordance with manufacturer specifications, the holes for the downlights are drilled (Forstner drill) or sawed (hole saw).
Tip: Use a drill stand so that the holes are straight.
The top and bottom runners are joined with a narrower spacer plate, which the lighting cable later runs along the front of. Apply a wavy line of UHU Mounting Glue Universal over the entire width and length of the runners...
... then join the three parts together, fix with clamps and...
... secure with screws.
Before applying the surface treatment, the holes for wall mounting must first be drilled.
Before applying paint, the surfaces must be sanded down and the edges softened. When doing this do not forget the cover panel for the cable duct, which is to be mounted later on.
To finish the job, apply the paint.
Hold the cantilever brackets in place, mark and drill the holes, insert dowels and mount the brackets using 5 x 80 mm screws.
Connect the lights to the power cable and press into the holes.
The cable is covered with a batten to hide it from view.
The custom-made edge panels of the roller shelves are 55 mm wide. To connect them to the base plate, 8 or 10 mm dowel holes are drilled into the lower cut edge. A dowel gauge will ensure the holes are vertical.
Dowel markers can also be used in place of the dowel gauge.
The dowels are glued in using UHU Wood Glue, position the dowel gauge over the top and set the thickness gauge.
Place the base and edge pieces on top of one another and fix in place, position the dowel gauge and drill the counter hole in the base plate.
Top ensure that nothing slips while the glue is drying, secure everything with clamps.
For the roller mounting panels, glue together to strips of MDF of varying lengths using UHU Wood Glue.
The overlap on each side of the shelf is determined by the size of the screw plate on the fixed castors and the shorter strip goes on the inside of the rolling shelf.
Apply UHU Wood Glue to the top strip, next to the start of the shorter strip, matching the width of the edge pieces, turn the strips over, place them onto the edges of the side panels and also fix with screws.
Finally, sand down the base, paint it and screw on the fixed castors.
