Basics of a solid bond.

Clean any dirt, rust, remains of paint and any other extraneous materials from the surfaces.
Roughen the surfaces by abrasion.
Thoroughly remove any grease from the surfaces, using acetone, alcohol or white spirit.
Let surfaces dry.
Do not touch prepared surfaces, to avoid the transfer of skin oils.
Apply the adhesive in a thin, even layer (when using contact adhesives, observe open time).
Keep dirt and dust away from the surfaces to which the adhesive has just been applied.
Stop any grinding work until the parts have been assembled.
